Hi :name:
Catch Report
Recently Intrepid Fly sent
groups to, Bassas da India, Mozambique, Lesotho, Zambia and around
South Africa.
This month Intrepid Fly returned from their 3rd trip to Bassas
da India, a remote atoll in the Mozambique Channel between Vilanculos
and Madagascar. Unquestionably one the of the best "local"
salt water destinations and certainly one of the most affordable
if you want target large GT's, tuna, wahoo, and numerous other pelagic
species. Though the crossing is lengthily (2+ days sail) the groups
have all been well rewarded with numerous GT's over 100cms, tuna
over 50 kgs and enormous wahoo. Other species of fish were targeted
on the flats, which have to be properly explored. If you are looking
to hook up with "jurassic" fish on a truly intrepid trip,
we will be hosting 2 trips in 2009.This is a must visit for all
salt water anglers!!
Intrepid Fly hosted a number
of trips in the Bazaruto Archipelago on the islands and on
the mainland. Conditions were much better than the earlier months
as the warm water entered the area producing GT's up to 30 kgs.
Plenty of bludger and queenfish and dorado were taken on fly, as
well as a few sailies around 30kgs. The upcoming warmer months will
no doubt see a rise in the catch report as we continue to promote
this region.
Intrepid Fly hosted trips
along the Zambezi with huge success. The high water levels
have produced vast amounts of bait fish and it is evident that anglers
across the Okavango and length of the Zambezi have all reported
catching more and larger tigers than normal. Lodge owners all agree
this has been one of the best seasons to date. Though the season
is coming to an end there is still time and a chance to land double
figure tigers as the lodge rates come out of the high season.
Fred has begun taking trips
into Lesotho while still hosting guests in Rhodes,
targeting wild trout in these remote streams. Sadly the water levels
in the streams have been low and the area is eagerly awaiting the
first big rains. Guests can expect conditions to improve but are
encouraged to contact us for a condition report before travelling
there. Once there we encourage you to spend time with Fred to raise
your knowledge on fishing streams.
Intrepid Fly hosted a weekend
away in the Underberg at the beginning of October, fishing
the Umzimkhulu River. This was the beginning of the season and was
only possible to the late snows that melted to fill the rivers in
the area. Again the region is awaiting their first heavy rains.
The lack of insects and the fact the trout were holding in the pools
is evident of winter stream fishing in the region but they will
no doubt spread out as the rivers fill up. Intrepid Fly will be
hosting a number of weekends in the Kamberg, Underberg and lowveld
this season.
Ian's largemouth yellow
fish season across the Vaal River was largely hampered by cold fronts
and low pressure systems. Though his guided record from last year
(20 lbs) was unbroken we were all surprised at how slow the season
was, only producing a few fish of 7-8lbs. The smallmouth
yellow fish season looks promising and has recently been producing
fish of close to 4kgs. Ian will be hosting a number of trips to
Sterkfontein Dam between November and March, and ideal venue
to sight fish for smallmouths with dry flies. Please contact us
as these trips are filling up.
