Hi Andrew

Catch Report

Recently Intrepid Fly sent groups to the Brazil, Mozambique, Argentina, Lesotho and around South Africa.

I was part of a group that visited the northern most river system in the Amazon in search of trophy peacock bass in December. This is without question the top fresh water fishing experience that I have been on. A floating lodge surrounded by the jungle and its weird inhabitants (fresh water dolphins, macaws, howler monkeys, etc ...). The group of 6 anglers landed 1018 peacocks ranging from 2lbs to 18 lbs over 6 days. One boat landed 174 peacocks in one day. Largest on fly was 15lbs while the 18lb peacock came out on conventional gear. According to the manager this was a particularly slow week!!!

Ant Diplock received a few groups over the festive season in the Bazaruto Archipelago. Sadly conditions were terrible with strong winds most of the time. However there were a few cracker days producing a few marlin, king fish from 4 - 35 kg’s on plugs, with one day producing 60 queenfish between 2- 5 kg’s. Now that the wind is hopefully blown out we are geared up for a busy few months targeting sailfish, kingfish and other local species. April is the start of the good season with a few trips arranged for what hope to be a great year on the Intrepid.

Fred Steynberg took a group to Argentina where they targeted rainbow and brown trout in the rivers and spring creeks. Though the water was high as a result of a late snow melt, the rivers were crystal clear, thus allowing for success sight fishing. The average size trout caught were in the 17 – 19 inches range, while there were a number of 22+ inches released. The fish were extremely strong and acrobatic with runs compared to steelheads. The local guides were especially impressed at the South Africans ability to target deep lying fish, testament to our fishing abilities ... go Bokke!!

The Western Cape streams water levels were at their best over the festive season, with all the rivers producing good fishing for that time of the year. The Rhodes region is still enjoying the best fishing it has had in years producing a number of 18 - 24 inch rainbow trout. The Mpumalanga region is still benefiting from the good rains with the dams and streams being very productive. Fred Steynberg has filled up all his trips to Lesotho for the year but hopes to make a few more available.

Intrepid Fly has a number of corporate fly-fishing trips to Mozambique, Zambia, Namibia and around South Africa lined up. Should you be interested in spoiling any of your clients and staff, please allows us to come in and showcase what we are about.
